Voie d’Espoir Partnership: DNA Family Search Project
From Pilot to Sustainable Project
After several years during which the DNA project in Haiti was forced to remain on hold due to limited travel opportunities, Plan Kiskeya launched a pilot phase in the spring of 2024 in partnership with Voie d’Espoir (VE). The goal of this pilot was to establish a sustainable local structure for registering, locating, and reconnecting families of adoptees. The collaboration proved successful and, by the end of the summer of 2024, evolved into a fully operational and long-term project.
Voie d’Espoir Has Become a Strategic and Indispensable Partner
Today, Voie d’Espoir has grown into a strategic and indispensable partner of Plan Kiskeya in Haiti. Under the leadership of Michel Joseph, founder of Voie d’Espoir, the team is responsible for the local implementation of the DNA project, the registration of family members, and the coordination of family search and reconnection efforts. Dirk Vermeyen is now also an integral member of the Voie d’Espoir team. With many years of experience as a family finder, he plays a key role in locating relatives and supporting complex family search cases.
Through local registration offices, targeted awareness campaigns, and close cooperation with Plan Kiskeya, new registrations are collected, processed, and matched with existing DNA profiles. This approach has resulted in a professional and sustainable working model that provides Haitian families with accessible entry points to the project while building on local expertise, commitment, and trust. Thanks to this collaboration, an increasing number of adoptees and their families are being reunited and given the opportunity to restore long-lost family connections.
